Investment manager AEW has expanded into Japan with the opening of a Tokyo office to be led by country manager Steve Bass and associate director Kiyomasa Matsuda.
The new office is located in the landmark Shinjuku Nomura building in the Shinjuku’s business district and builds on the company’s Asia-Pacific presence in Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney.
Bass has nearly 20 years of real estate investment experience in Japan and joins AEW from Orion Partners, where he led the Japanese real estate business as a partner.
Matsuda also joins the company from Orion Partners, where he was responsible for investments in Japanese senior housing.
“We are pleased to add Steve Bass and Kiyomasa Matsuda to our team,” said David Schaefer, managing director and head of AEW’s Asia Pacific region.
“Their strong experience, in-depth knowledge of the Japanese property markets and network of contacts will complement and strengthen those of our existing team and will be highly valuable to our investors.”
AEW and its affiliates manage US$73.7bn of property and securities across North America, Europe and Asia.
