Apartments For Rent in Ho Chi Minh City : A Guide to Saigon’s Best Districts

The city has recovered in the 30 years, with the current population at over 7 million. It was named Ho Chi Minh City in honor of a Vietnamese national hero Ho Chi Minh (Also known as Nguyen Tat Thanh). but citizens were so averse to the change that authorities retained the officially titled designation, although the city center retains the name Saigon.

Ho Chi Minh City attracts a large number of tourists due to its intriguing culture, traditional French design, modern skyscrapers, and exquisite temples and shrines. The city is also filled with rooftop bars overlooking Saigon and beyond, while fantastic restaurants offer a combination of French, Chinese, and, of course, local Vietnamese cuisine.

Different districts in Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City

Expatriates tend to expatriate to specific districts while settling down in Ho Chi Minh City – Saigon. Here is an interactive map of how the city is organized:
This article will provide you all the information you must know depending on which district you would like to settle in. From the heart of Saigon in the financial district to some very local neighborhoods as well as very expat-friendly districts where you can easily feel at home, this guide will be the ultimate guide for you to discover the most popular districts in Saigon depending on your criteria and expectations.

Things you need to know about Ho Chi Minh City

If you are considering moving to Vietnam and live in Ho Chi Minh City, there are a few important things you need to know that may influence the type of rental or housing location you can consider.

Do not use dollar currency

All across the postwar period of insecurity, the US dollar served as the official unofficial currencies of Vietnam, but you will now need to utilize the national currency, the Vietnam Dong. Certain banks and exchange counters in malls and department stores also offer this service, though at a higher cost.
And, while your home bank may charge a fee for foreign transactions, there are ATMs throughout the city that are free to use. While cashless transactions are increasing in popularity, you will still need a wad of Vietnam’s high-tech plastic banknotes to go around.

Must-visit museums

The cheap admission charge to several of Saigon’s major repositories is well worth it merely to get a glimpse inside some of the city’s increasingly uncommon ancient structures. In comparison to a comparable London or New York City, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, in particular, may fall flat.

Once known as the Gia Long Palace, the tower served as his temporary residence at the time and is probably more deserving of your time than the dusty and slightly out-of-date exhibitions it houses.

In the turbulent months and years following World War II, the Palace also served as headquarters and residences for an ever-changing series of Japanese, French, Vietnamese, and British commanders and governors.

Must-watch view of the canal

The Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe canal, which spans more than five miles and passes across five central Saigon districts, is a work of urban architectural genius. Along the river’s twisting banks, a ribbon of tree-lined pathways, city park space, and highly desirable real estate currently runs.

Mornings here are as they should be lively with runners and dog walkers, fresh coffee, fresh juices, and a new Banh Mi covered in yesterday’s newspaper. Meanwhile, an ever-expanding selection of restaurants and bars transforms the canal into a nighttime wonderland.

Keep yourself dry

Whether you’re traveling mostly during the rainy season, which runs from April to October, pack flip-flops as well as a small portable towel. When the daily rainfall arrives, seek shelter inside or beneath a plastic poncho.

Umbrellas are ineffective against a Saigon rainstorm. If you are unable to go during the dry season, do not fret. Rainstorms are often brief, severe, and somewhat predictable. Mornings are normally dry, and fold-away umbrellas, blankets, and parasols help maintain a sense of normalcy in Saigon, even if that normalcy begins to drift away in the street.

District 1 : the 'financial district' and heart of Saigon

District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City’s the trade and investment hub. This is where the bulk of travelers will spend the majority of their time. District 1, which contains most of the city’s major attractions and an increasing number of pubs and restaurants, was constructed by French architects during the colonial era, as seen by the wide, plant thoroughfares and frequent parklands. On a visit to Saigon, you might easily spend the entirety of your time in District 1 and never run out of meals, goods, or facilities. While French colonial architecture and Chinese Culture style temples serve as reminders of Vietnam’s rich heritage, District 1 has a truly cosmopolitan feel. From the skyscrapers that dominate the skyline to the Western-style malls, hotels, and restaurants along Pham Ngu Lao Avenue and beyond, this neighborhood exudes cosmopolitanism.

Places you have to visit in District 1 of HCM

A road trip

The way to successfully experience Ho Chi Minh City’s pace of life is to ride a motorcycle. However, you are not required to rent one for yourself as this city is an awful location to learn. Numerous firms offer excellent travel packages that include English-speaking guides and experienced drivers.

Nothing compares to the rush of bursting through dense traffic with thousands of motorcycles, passing through historic French architecture and sights of bustling street life. Taxis are more secure, but you miss out on the complete sense perception.

An independent place

In 1975, troops snuck into the front gates of the National Palace in old Saigon, creating one of the most famous pictures of the Vietnam War or the American War, as it is referred to here. Today, reproductions of the tanks are displayed in front of the building.

You can see where prior presidents slept, hosted heads of state, and even sheltered during bombing runs inside the palace. The underground bunker serves as a chilling reminder of Saigon’s paranoia during those years of reconstruction.

A cruise ride

While Ho Chi Minh City’s skyline is not like that of Hong Kong or other Asian megacities, it is the unusual tranquillity of the Saigon River that renders a river trip remarkable.

On one side, the forest pushes over the river banks; on the other, the city’s brilliant lights and tall structures. And, except the streets, the river is rather quiet, allowing you to relax and sip your beverage of choice while collecting magnificent images and emotions.

A night street tour

We will experience some significant modifications in recent years, but it remains a magnificent tribute to moral evil and extreme hedonism.

Read more about Bui Vien’s history. Defined, it’s a drugged-up red light area dedicated to getting travellers as intoxicated as possible.

From November to March, the main tourist season, each night is a crazy scene of druggies, junkies, massages girls, gangsters, and curious locals who watch it all as if it were conscious human theatre, which this is.

District 2 : the 'expat' district for a balanced life

District 2 and Thao Dien are excellent neighborhoods in which to hunt for a home in Saigon. With many stylish cafes and restaurants, a sizable ex-pat population, and an ever-growing selection of shopping alternatives. Once a little community with a few rental villas, district 2 has transformed dramatically over the last decade. It has the feel of a mature community while maintaining a tranquil ambiance. District 2 has been one of the factors Saigon is considered one of the world’s top drinking cities. With a rapidly growing population and increasing importance as a residential and business section of town. Unsurprisingly, District 2 quickly develops into a new after-hours hangout spot for Ho Chi Minh City’s partygoers. This alone is enough to bring you on a tour of D2’s greatest bars and nightclubs.

Places you must See in District 2 (Thao Dien)

Bars

District 2 has been one of the factors Saigon is considered one of the world’s top drinking cities. With a rapidly growing population and increasing importance as a residential and business section of town.

Unsurprisingly, District 2 quickly develops into a new after-hours hangout spot for Ho Chi Minh City’s partygoers. This alone is enough to bring you on a tour of D2’s greatest bars and nightclubs.

Coffee Shops

District 2, located directly over the river from Saigon’s fast-paced downtown hub, is home to an abundance of trendy cafés, delectable eateries, and cool hangout areas. In our guidance to District 2, we’ve featured our ultimate favorites!

District 2, Saigon’s most fascinating creative district, is a rapidly modernizing neighborhood on the verge of remarkable upheaval. It is densely packed with fantastic breakfast locations and gorgeously adorned restaurants, not to mention a heady spirit of creativity.

This welcoming, community-oriented neighborhood linked to the Hive Thao Dien and the Hive Villa is a must-see for anybody new to Saigon. With an abundance of hot spots that will make your head spin, the Hive Life team decided to compile a list of our favorite haunts in a comprehensive guide to District 2, so you may savor them as well!

Luxurious Houses

While selecting high-quality residences in district 2 remains limited, we will serve you to stay ahead of the game and save you time by screening out properties that we believe are suited for ex-pats. On this page, you will find detached houses and mansions in gated communities.

Expats typically opt to live in a complex for security reasons or increase their chances of meeting new people. I’d want to encourage you to examine both because it truly relies on the time of your stay, and some fantastic possibilities may arise in either category.

Thu Thiem

It is situated on a peninsula in which the Saigon River forms a nearly complete circle. It is intended to serve as HCMC’s new financial district, relieving pressure on the city’s existing buildings and roadways. Shanghai, like Saigon, was dubbed the pearl of the east or pearl of the orient in the past.

And, similar to Shanghai, Saigon is constructing a new metropolis adjacent to the old one. Thu Thiem has been labeled the Pudong of Southeast Asia due to this resemblance.
